Trees sprawl into the sky

Shouldering each other aside

Shouting, ‘Sun! Sun!’ and ‘Rain! Rain!’

The tips of their leaves out like tongues

Their branches up like lovers’ arms

Such unseemly lust for sky –

Shame on trees
